Black hole short film analysis8/25/2023 ![]() ![]() The diegetic sound sets the scene for the audience, in case he visual wasn’t enough. With regards to sound, we originally hear the diegetic sound of the photocopier, there is very little non-diegetic sound, except very subtle background music, but it isn’t over powering and is so subtle that its barely noticeable. He then becomes carried away and greedy and tries to steal money from the safe, ultimately trapping himself inside. While completing the mundane task of photocopying, he comes across a piece of paper with a black circle on it, he soon realises its powers of being a black hole, and tests the theory by stealing a chocolate bar from the vending machine. ![]() There is no one else in the shot frame and the dull lighting and lack of environmental sound suggests that he is alone, meaning that perhaps it is late for him to be at work. His exhausted sigh confirms this idea that he is bored and exhausted and the day doesn’t seem to be ending for him. We initially only see him in an office setting, looking very tired and bored, with his work uniform slightly skewed. It follows the mundane life of a middle-aged man. The black hole is a thriller short film, with screen time running just below 3 minutes. ![]()
